Pakistan has offered educational and training facilities to Myanmar in the medical‚ engineering and business colleges in Pakistan.
The offer was made by President Asif Ali Zardari during his meeting with the Myanmar President U Thein Sein in capital Naypyidaw. The President called for establishing a Preferential Tariff Arrangement leading to a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement and the establishment of a Joint Ministerial Commission mandated to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. He offered to share with Myanmar Pakistan's experience in poverty alleviation and women empowerment. The President emphasized regular high level contacts to impart new dynamism to bilateral relations. He extended an invitation to Myanmar President to visit Pakistan. The Presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said Asif Ali Zardari also called for consultations between the respective Central Banks to study prospects of establishing a Currency Swap Arrangement for closer economic and trade cooperation. President U Thein Sein hosted banquet in honour of President Zardari which was also attended by Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari‚ Asifa Bhutto Zardari and other members of delegation. President Asif Ali Zardari will travel to Yangon today to meet with icon of democracy and Nobel Laureate head of National League for Democracy Aung San Suu Kyi at her residence. President Asif Ali Zardari will confer Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Award on Suu Kyi in a special investiture ceremony. Suu Kyi who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 is known worldwide for her decades long struggle for the democracy. Later‚ the President will pay a visit to the mausoleum of last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.
