President Asif Ali Zardari will undertake a state visit to the United Arab Emirates from the 24th to 25th of this month.
In his weekly news briefing in Islamabad , foreign office spokesman said the President will hold talks with his counterpart besides Vice President, Vice Prime Minister, ruler of Dubai and other top leadership. The visit of President Zardari is aimed at a comprehensive up-gradation of Pakistan’s relations with UAE with a focus on establishing a strategic and economic partnership between the two countries. The spokesman said British foreign minister David Miliband is scheduled to visit Pakistan on the 26th of this month. He is expected to call on the president and Prime Minister. Besides holding in-depth discussion with foreign minister shah Mehmood Qureshi, he is scheduled to call on the chief of army staff general Ashfaq Pervez Kiayani. To a question, the spokesman said a positive breakthrough has been made on Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project and only pricing mechanism has to be finalized. He hoped the issue would be resolved soon. Regarding probe into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the spokesman said an announcement in this respect is expected soon. He said the government is in constant touch with the world body on the issue. However, he added, nothing could be said about the cost of the probe at this moment. To another question, the spokesman said the government is making all out efforts for safe recovery of all kidnapped foreigners including an Iranian diplomat and a Canadian journalist.
